Joyce Chang
Attorney
Joyce Chang is a San Francisco Bay Area attorney whose practice has been exclusively devoted for over a decade to complex, high-asset marital dissolution cases. She began her legal career in high-stakes, multi-district litigation before transitioning to a focused family law practice serving clients with substantial asset and intricate income structures. Over the course of her career, Joyce has overseen the division of more than $1 billion in marital assets, and has been named by Super Lawyers for the past ten consecutive years (2017–2026).
Joyce represents clients through every phase of the marital dissolution process, including case management, discovery, settlement negotiations, mediation, pre-trial litigation, and trial. Her practice is dedicated solely to matters involving complex asset structures and compensation arrangements, which typically includes extensive real property, personal property, private equity and venture capital interests, carried interests, deferred compensation, RSUs, and/or other non-traditional income streams. She works closely with her clients and their professional teams – often including forensic accountants, estate planners, and financial advisors – to ensure a comprehensive approach that supports her clients’ best interests during the divorce and following the conclusion of the divorce.
Known for her exceptional efficiency, organization, and strategic discipline, Joyce brings a calm and steady command to complex matters. She works collaboratively with her clients to define clear objectives and chart a deliberate path forward and, recognizing the profound emotional disruption inherent in divorce, is valued for her compassionate and patient approach. Joyce will remain closely engaged with her clients from the outset of a case through its resolution, maintaining clear and consistent communication so clients feel informed, supported, and confident in every decision they make. When appropriate, she prioritizes negotiating thoughtful, comprehensive settlement resolutions designed to preserve discretion and avoid unnecessary conflict.
Joyce also has significant experience handling matters involving domestic violence, including successfully taking such cases through trial. She approaches these matters with sensitivity and discretion, and is likewise experienced in representing individuals facing wrongful allegations. In all such cases, Joyce is unwavering in her commitment to protecting her clients’ interests with dignity and care.
Joyce earned her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, where she served as an editor on multiple journals, including the Santa Clara Law Review and the Santa Clara Journal of International Law. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and has served as a mentor to incoming women law students and as a volunteer translator for a local nonprofit.
Outside of her practice, Joyce enjoys hiking, home renovation projects, and spoiling her Vizsla rescue dog, Harrison.
